Witchkitty supports Earthhour

26/03/2010

Tomorrow to support Earth hour, turn the electricity not just lights in your homes off from 8pm-9Pm (make sure you lock your homes too in case burglars take this opportunity!!)
1. Switch lights off
2. Turn all socket switches off
3. Should you don’t have switches on the sockets, unplug all device on your powerpoints
4. (you can’t turn your fridge off can’t you?!) but avoid opening the fridge as it takes more electricity opening and closing the doors
5. Turn all appliances (except 5) off, well if you have a family member on life support dont turn that off :p be with him/her in the dark
6. Have candlight dinner/drinks outdoor.  (make sure you follow the safe rules on using candles)

Long term and make it ta habit.
1. Unplug any chargers in powerpoints as even they are not charging any device it takes up electricity thus creating carbon emmissions
2. Turn lights off if not needed.
3. Don’t overcharge devices.
4. Turn devices and appliances power off when not in use
5. Choose what you eat.  the less processed it is, the less carbon emissions has been produced.
6. Walk/Run/Ride your bike/car pool to work

I think that you can turn off the fridge for one hour, nothing bad will happen to the food and beverages inside. Fridges are built to resist several hours of powercut, so just one hour won’t do any harm. Just my $0.2.

Thanks jssshelar!! I didn’t know 🙂 thanks for the suggestion. BTW we should not forget its not just enery, we also need to save water, recycle and reduce!
